This project, initiated by the World Health Organization – Regional Office of Africa – in 2015 and designed in 2021, aimed to reduce maternal and child mortality and improve maternal and newborn health by increasing the involvement of skilled nurses and midwives in childbirth. It involved seminars with administrators, tutors, nursing and midwifery leaders from various organizations in four African countries. It focused on improving midwifery education through a systematic approach. The project used WHO educator core competencies and successfully trained midwifery educators in competency-based education, leading to motivated students engaged in active learning.
